Born Michael Dewayne English, 1962 in Kennansville, NC; son of Aubine and Grace English; Married Lisa Bailey in 1983 (later divorced); children: one daughter, Megan. Addresses: Management-Trifecta, 209 10th Ave. S., Suite 302, Nashville, TN 37203; The William Morris Agency, Inc. 2100 West End Ave., #1000, Nashville, TN 37203.; Record Company-Curb Records, 47 Music Square East, Nashville, TN 37203.

From prodigal son to pariah and back again, Michael English has been successful in both the contemporary Christian and pop music industry. English's success in these two different industries made him a rarity in the music business, whose strict divisions between its music categories usually blocks any attempts for such crossover success. Yet it was how English entered the pop music world, not his crossover success that made him famous.

Michael Dewayne English was born in 1962 in Kennansville, North Carolina. Before English was big enough to be seen from its pews, he began singing with his father, Aubine and his brother, Biney in their Pentecostal Church in Wallace, North Carolina. By the age of 13, English and Biney became members of The Singing Samaritans, a southern gospel quartet. After graduating high school, English toured professionally for two years with the gospel group, The Singing Americans. In 1982, English continued his singing career by joining another gospel group, The Goodmans. According to his online web page biography, English said that "singing with The Goodmans was a dream come true [because] Vestal Goodman is my favorite singer in the whole world. When I get to Heaven, I want her voice." In 1986 English was asked to join the respected gospel group, The Gaither Vocal Band and for the next five years they recorded the albums 1 X One, Wings,, and Homecoming.

During these years, though, English was not just professionally singing, he was also battling a panic disorder. As Lyla Akouri noted in his online web page biography, English suffered from panic attacks that were "brought about by years of internalized stress and sense of worthlessness." Some of these attacks became debilitating to the point where he would experience heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and tunnel vision. When English lost his voice for seven months, he sought help from a familiar source. "Michael turned to God to help him through a time when he says he was 'out of hope'," wrote Akouri. By "turning to God," English regained his hope and took a giant step forward and began his solo contemporary christian music career.

In 1991, Christian record label Warner Alliance Records released English's first solo album, Michael English. This album, with such hits as "Do You Believe in Love", "Mary Did You Know", and "Heaven" won English two Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove awards. By the end of 1992, Michael English was also the thirteenth best selling album on Billboard's Contemporary Christian album chart. In 1993, English released his second album Hope. The GMA awarded Hope and English six Dove awards including Contemporary Album of the Year in 1994. Hope was also the fifth best selling record on Billboard's Contemporary Christian album chart for 1993. As People's Cynthia Sanz stated, English had "secured a place among gospel's most successful singers." The spotlight of fame and success had finally shone brightly on English perhaps a little too brightly.

On May 6, 1994, English and Warner Alliance announced in Billboard magazine that English "would be withdrawing from the Christian music industry because of mistakes he has recently made." The spotlight that had so brightly shone fame and success on English was now about to illuminate a public scandal-his affair with Marabeth Jordon, the married singer of the gospel group First Call. Two days before the Dove Awards, English had learned that Jordon was expecting his child (she later miscarried). English admitted his affair to his wife, Lisa, then one week later moved out of their house. English also admitted the affair to Warner Alliance. According to Sanz, Warner Alliance record executives then "stopped promotion of his music and pushed him to make a public confession." English also returned his half-dozen Dove awards to the GMA.

Although English had planned to simply retire without an explanation, he honored his record company's wishes and publicly confessed to the affair. Sanz wrote that, as a result of this public confession, "Christian radio stations stopped playing English's music, and some Christian bookstores pulled his tapes and CDs from their shelves." Warner Alliance, as stated in Christianity Today, then announced that it had decided to "dissociate itself from English due to his actions that were contrary to the very ideals he had been espousing." Thus, just three years after his first solo album, English had been dropped by his record label, had been shunned by Christian radio stations and bookstores, and had left his home.

However, English's fans had not left him. Newsweek reporters Paul O'Donnell and Amy Eskind said that these fans "made a distinction between English's sin and his songs." O'Donnell and Eskind also noted that fans had "snatched up any of his albums still on the racks," and barraged radio stations with "nasty calls" against banning English's music. Nashville's WNAZ radio disc jockey Mark DeYoung told Newsweek that "they [fans] were more angry with us [radio stations] than with Michael English. They weren't condemning him at all." Yet, despite continued fan support, English told Sanz: "I felt as if scandal was written across my forehead. I was depressed and sick. I thought my life was over."

Healing

In May of 1994, English told Newsweek that "I grew up singing Christian music and Christian music is where my heart is. I'd like to sing [Christian] music again, but I don't know if I will be allowed to." Yet a mere seven months later, Billboard reported that the contemporary Christian music industry had "urged English to return ... to share his tribulations and potentially reach an even larger Christian audience." English told Billboard that he would not return to the industry because, "I'd have to talk about it [the affair], preach about it, testify about it for Lord knows how long, and I choose not to do that. I choose not to have a tool like that to make myself huge in the Christian industry. I think that's ridiculous. I think that's nasty, and I think that's dirty. I don't have a gimmick. I've just got a voice, and I just want to use that voice."

English chose to use his voice by signing with Curb Records, a secular music label who had offered English a record deal the same day he was dropped by Warner Alliance. Curb chairman Mike Curb told Billboard, "I feel he's one of the greatest artists I've ever heard, and I feel his artistry should be allowed to continue." In October of 1994, Curb Records released English's first pop single, "Healing". This song, a duet with country singer Wynonna Judd, was featured on the Silent Fall movie soundtrack. In 1995 Curb released Healing, a compilation of previously released material along with two new songs.

In July of 1994, English fully declared his freedom from the constraints of the contemporary Christian music industry by debuting his first mainstream pop album, Freedom. He told Billboard that pop music allowed him, "the freedom to sing and not worry if this [song/album] is going to offend anyone. I'm free to say whatever I feel there is to say. I hope people feel the pain that I have been through and the freedom of expression I have in these songs." Most of the original songs on Freedom have a common lyrical theme-freedom. In "Freedom Field", which English co-wrote, he sings: AOld man religion, I've got your name; the best part of my years were wrapped up tied up in your thang." English explained to Billboard that the idea for this song came from a "recurring dream that I've had of that place, the freedom where all my dreams come true, the place where everything is right and everything that is wrong is made right." However, English had not totally severed his ties with the contemporary Christian music industry. He produced albums and wrote songs for southern gospel artists such as J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, the Gaither Vocal Band, and The Martins. English acknowledged in Billboard that "Christian music will always be part of my life, because that's how I grew up.... I'm never going to shut the door on it."

The doors for English's return to contemporary Christian music was opened in 1996 by his friend, Sumner. Sumner and his band The Stamps were performing at the National Quartet Convention when he asked English to join him on stage, and asked him "to forgive those times when he was judged by the church." English, genuinely honored, sang "I Bowed On My Knees," his signature and classic contemporary Christian song.

In May of 1997, the contemporary Christian music industry's door opened even wider for English when he was asked to be a guest on Trinity Broadcasting Network's (TBN) popular religious TV program, Praise The Lord. English thought hard about performing, fearing that Christian audiences would still not accept him, but eventually decided to do it. Afterwards he told The U.S. Gospel News, "I'm overwhelmed with gratitude. [People] have been gracious enough to forgive, and now I want to give something back to them."

Struggled for Re-acceptance

The controversy surrounding English's return to contemporary Christian music led to the establishment of two internet web sites devoted to English. Robin Parrish, General Editor of one web site, told Jill Doss-Raines from The Dispatch that the Christian media and mainstream media had ignored English, even in the wake of his comeback attempt. Writing for the second web site, Akouri agreed with Parrish. In an editorial, Akouri stated that there were "radio stations who still refuse to play his music; one we know of requiring an apology in person before they will do so." Similarly, music product buyer for Berean Christian Stores, Rick Anderson told Carol Chapman Stertzer of Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) Update that stores " have a responsibility to our customers and, more importantly, to the Lord, to carry product that is recorded by artists whose lifestyles are examples of what Christ wants for us: lives of self-control." Therefore, Anderson had not yet decided whether the Berean Christian Stores would carry English's forthcoming Christian album.

English was aware of the hostility over his return to Christian music, telling Stertzer that "there have some down times dealing with radio stations that won't play my music and say they never will. But I'm not bitter or angry about those things anymore. I'm just thankful for the ones that do play my music." Not to mention the Christian retail stores who never stopped selling English's music. "I felt Warner went overboard," explained Joe Oakley of Family Christian Stores, to Stertzer. "I understand the need to discipline the guy, but to pull everything off the shelves because he sinned? That is tantamount to pulling Psalms out of the Bible because David sinned." Or as Ken Farley, program director at Oklahoma City's KOKF-FM, told Stertzer, "If the criteria for playing a song or stocking a CD was based purely on whether an artist had sin in his or her life, then we'd have nothing to play or sell." Thus, it seemed that English had found some acceptance for his return to contemporary Christian music.

As for why he decided to return to his Christian music, English told Sertzer, "[I] felt a tugging to go back in and do what I know that God has called me to do. I've gone through the fire and made it, so I have something to tell. I'm just me now-there's nothing to hide. People accept me, or they don't."

I'm so very glad you decided to come back to the obvious calling on your life. It's truly appalling when Christians, of all religious people, have the audacity to judge anyone for sins that are forgiven by Christ alone. I pray that God will continue to bless and strengthen you as you bring glory to His name!

Michael, you are my favorite singer in the whole world. I was watching your show as well. I think the Christian community was way too hard on you. A sin is a sin. Your humbleness is profound. It is not Christmas without, "Mary, did you know". I had "Heaven" played at my grandmothers funeral and it still gives me comfort to this day. I hope you get to see my comments. I hate to see you actually gave back your awards. You deserved them. Anyone can fall. It's the getting back up that's important. Love you! Marianne Thompson

Michael, I have listened to your music for a long time and appreciate you returning to your Christian music roots. You, my brother, are no different than any of the rest of us. I went through a terrible divorce back in the early nineties and was looked down upon by the Assemblies of God. It has taken me a long time to heal from the scars I received from "the church". But Praise the Lord, I serve a forgiving God that took me where I was and am happy to say, I am forgiven and and I know he has cast my sins as far as the east is from the west... We love you brother and continue to worship with you any time we see you singing for Him!

Michael you are no different than anyone else, You made a mistake and fessed up to it. Your life started over when God and Jesus forgave you. God gave you the voice to witness to us all and I Thank God for that. Have never met you, never been to see you in person, Oh but how I would love too. You be Blessed and carry on. You have the love of God what more do you need? Proud to call you the Best. Dianne

Michael, I have been a fan of yous for as long as I can remember and own every song you ever sang. I was thrilled when you were presented with so many Dove awards. Several days later I read in the newspaper that you had returned the Dove awards and were leaving Gospel music due to having sinned with a woman who was not your wife. I was crushed and followed your career as you moved farther away from gospel music. I saw the industry turning away from you; radio stations not playing your songs and being turned away by your record company. By this time, I fel that I knew you personally and I suffered as I saw you suffer from the pain of all this rejection. I prayed that you would be restored to a place in gospel music which is where you belong. I was thrilled when I heard that you had found another woman to love and had married again. If anyone ever deserved to be happy, it is you.Now I see you with Bill Gaither and the vocal band and I have been buying the DVDs and CDs that are currently being produced and plan to go to Gospel Fest next May in the Smokie Mountains and can't wait to see you sing again. My husband and I chose that as the place where we can have a nice vacation and hear the Vocal Band with Michael English sing songs of Glory to our Heavenly Father. You're forgiven Michael. That's why He suffered and died so that we would be forgiven for the sins that we all have. Your sin was just more visible but we are all sinners who need a Savior. Sing on for the Lord Michael and never stop.

I have been inspired by Michael for years. I think it is truly a shame that "Christians" are unable to practice one of the two most important commandments they are held to..."Love your neighbor as yourself." Is forgiveness not one of the ways to show love for your neighbor? God has forgiven Michael. Everyone else just needs to get over their hypocrisy!

Wow...I'm glad some of you aren't God or none of us would ever get to heaven. David sinned...over and over, and publicly, and God still saw fit to allow him to rule over Judah. Yes, what Michael did was wrong...but he's not saying it wasn't. He simply wants to answer his calling. If you've been "disqualified" from ministry, I'd say, find another church because the one you're involved with clearly did not get the message of grace.

Michael you have a wonderfu voice and thank God for ur life. As long as we are in this world we all have struggles but we need to press on and look to Jesus daily to overcome this struggles for a daily victory Heb12v2. the truth about us is that we all stil in the process none of us is perfect yet. I think the time when u face disappointment is the time for ALONE WITH GOD. The devil knows all our weak point and he is showing for dat unguarded hour.My brother please let us lean on this GRACE Titus 2v11-15. thank you.hauwa yusuf from Nigeria

Unfortunately, Michael's fans lack the same discernment that he does. Yes a person can find forgiveness. But that does not mean that you are restored to your previous level of trust. There are actions which disqualify you from certain areas of ministry. Does that mean you can never serve God again? No. But it says something about the ego of a person who, in the public eye, commits adultery and thinks they can start over with a blank slate. And let me say that I am in the same boat as Michael. I have things in my past that disqualify me from certain areas of ministry according to scripture. Instead of complaining and rebelling against it, I accept it and look for ways God wants to use me in an alternative role.

Michael, You are truly an example of God's grace and forgivenss. Your dynamice voice, your example as a husband, father, and Christian person have influenced many people. My prayers are always with you that you continue ministering with your voice and testimony to an awesome God. Thank you for being who you are Michael, a genuine child of God. You and your family are very special people to me.

I have always loved Michael English and his music and so have my children who grew up on listening to him. We are all sinners. Michael is an awesome man and no matter what he ever does, God will always be there for him and so will our family. Love and prayers to Michael and his family from The Alexanders in Louisiana.

Didn't really know who you were other than a guy who showed up on the Gaither videos occasionally to sing and then I read your book and started listening closer to you. You have touched me with your music. God knows your heart. Keep on keeping on Michael, you inspire more people than you could possibly know.

I just think that it is sad that persons no longer believe in forgiveness. Were it not for forgiveness from God on a daily basis our lives would be useless and we would be permanently separated from God. I f it's one thing that I know that God has asked us to is like him and yet we are so quick to judge others when they make mistakes. I love Michael English and I wish that people could see him for the person that he really is and not hold unto his past. These are the people that will be judged in the final analysis. The Bible has so many people who have done so many sinful things and each time God forgave them once they repented. If you realise God does not use perfect people to proclaim his gospel he uses persons who have at one time been through the mud just so that other people in the world that are in the same situation could identify with them and turn their hearts to God. We are all sinners saved by grace.

Though i have read this and it is mostly true the article doesn't really do the story justice as to the affect of family trouble and the history that Michael had with sexual abuse at the hands of young men when he was young. This also leaves out the goodman family which Michael joined after leaving the singing samaritans before. That is where the song I Bowed On My Knees came from. This song was introduced to michael by Rusty Goodman a legand on his own time.

Michael, I just heard you on TBN, & worshipped like never before.....what a gift He's given you. Thank you for sharing it. As for all you've been through, isn't the Gospel about reconciliation...between God & man?....A revelation of His gift of righteousness to us? Didn't He bring this about by His payment on the cross? Didn't He wash us clean? What record of wrongdoing is He keeping against us? Doesn't Romans 8:1 say that there is therefore no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus? That we stand by grace & no longer by the Law? Then, I don't see how any of us, the church, or otherwise, could or should have stood in judgement over you or anyone else. Jesus reserved His harshest rebuke for the Pharisees. He took our fall, & made full payment for all our sins, past, present & future. If any one of us stands in our own righteousness, we stand condemned. But praise God for His Gift of Righteousness in Christ Jesus. Where would any of us be without it? Receive no condemnation from anyone. We didn't gain our salvation by our own actions & we don't lose it by them either. I thank God that you stand in His robe of righteousness just like the rest of us. God Bless You, my brother. Praising His name for your life & witness to His grace.

Michael, As I've told you, I first saw you many years ago singing in a little church with your parents and I have followed you ever since. I spend countless nights on my knees and shed buckets of tears but I always knew you'd come back home. God's hold on you was stronger than any of us knew and thank heavens He never let you go. I've seen you numerous times this past year and I have watched you grow in grace as you've shared your testimony and touched so many lives. You've taken what the devil intended to destroy you with and you turned it into a reminder to all of us that God loves us and His grace is sufficient. You and Marcie have much to be proud of. You are "real" Michael English and I thank God for every second of your life. I love you guys! Keep on keeping on!

Michael, I became familiar with your music from watching The Gaithers on television. I bought the Reunion CD's. You have one of the most beautiful, emotional and expressive voices I have ever heard. A voice only given by God. About sinning...For all have sinned and fell short of the glory of God. Isn't that the reason Jesus went to the cross? You make this 56 year old love the Lord even more. Keep singing, keep touching people's hearts. God bless you, Barbara

I wish I had your courage and your faith. I thought I had faith, but sometimes God doesn't seem close. I love your music and when listening to you, I feel things. But then real life kicks in and the addictions to script meds comes back. Also the fight to find peace seems so far away. I am so proud of you. Please keep up your ministry. You don't know how many people you are helping.

Michael....I have walked in the years of pain that you have walked. I am 57 now but 3o years ago I had anxiety disorder to where I once passed out from the trauma. In 1982 God started getting a hold of my life. It has been a long and painful journey, learning to forgive and be forgiven, learning to forgive myself. In 1988 I heard a sermon with a line that was burned in my mind to where there is hardly a day that I don't think of it. "God really uses ALL of life’s bruises, and nothing goes by the Father's eye that has not been allowed/appointed for us by Him". Now I have an anointing on my life that I cold have never imagined, had I not gone through the torment, grief, hopelessness and despair that God led me and kept me through. You have that anointing and ever fuller measure upon your life (I got to see you with GVB in the Twin cities, 05/30/09). Keep going, the foot of pride may never come against us no matter how greatly God uses us, for we have come to see the utter futility of self and the total glory and holiness of His presence in us. Isn’t it awesome to drink from the Fountain that flows from the Mountain?

I saw you for the first time while watching the Gaithers on a Saturday afternoon. You were being interviewed and I remember how humble you were and how appreciative you were for the opportunity to be on that show.... I didn't hear your story then, but I just read your biography.....it is hitting real close to home because I have a 29 year old son in a rehab center in Louisville Ky fighting his addiction to pain pills. He just got out March of this year and made some wrong decisions and now he is back in another facility. I have raised my children in church. My son is an excellent drummer. He plays in his church and has played with Rita Springer as a back up drummer. I cannot possible understand the magnitude of this addiction but seeing my son go through this has been the hardest thing ever. I live in Florida and for awhile he would manage to borrow enough money to call me only to let me know he was ok just so hungry. He was sleeping on the streets.... not able to take showers for weeks....I frantically started calling churches in the Louisville area hoping someone could help me help my son..... He is doing better but still has about 7 months to go. I have learned that unless you have walked where I've walked, you cannot possibly understand nor do you have the right to pass judgement. I also know that my God loves us just as we are. Your testimony brings me encouragement.... I pray that my son will trust in God and lean on him for his strength and when he completes this program, he will let God use his experiences to help and encourage others. Thank you for sharing..... we have to be real.... it is what it is....... we just have to be real and honest and open. Please pray for my son and his wife that God will use them in a mighty way....... and if you need a good drummer - I can hook you up....

To many people think they have the right to judge; and say,"I have not ever sinned like that." Sin is sin in God's eyes. Their vanity in such a remark is a sin in itself. Jesus is our goodness, without him there is no good!

Michael... I was priviledged to see you w/Gaither's Lovin' Life Tour in Detroit on 3/12/09. WELCOME HOME MICHAEL ENGLISH!!! WELCOME HOME!!! God's blessings on you and your family! Sinning is human thing; we all do it and will continue to do it. I was so personally hurt for you all those years ago... have listened to you for a long time! However, forgiveness is a "Godly-thing" and we all deserve forgiveness. "It Feels Like Redemption" brings me to my knees! I too was a prodigal one... and coming home is tearfully painful and joyful. Bill & Gloria Gaither have obviously lead a campaign for forgiveness for you, evident by their response to you; how they look at you. They love you! Keep singin' beautifully! We love you; forgiveness is done... graciously accept, smile and go on. Looking in your eyes Thursday night at the table in the lobby... God has your heart, soul, mind & body... right where He wants it! God's richest blessings!

Michael, I "witnessed your voice" for the very first time at the Gaither Concert in Beaumont, Texas last night, Thursday, 3-5-09, at the Ford Arena. The "operative" word for you is: AWESOME, TO SAY THE LEAST. In addition, you are so good looking!! GOD has really really blessed YOU and those of us who are fortunate enough to see and hear you. Remember - the Bible tells us NOT to look back; only forward. I don't care about the mistakes in your life; that is between you and God alone. I am a true fan of yours and look forward to seeing you in concert again in the future. We ALL have "sins of our youth"; I, too, am a Christian and NOT perfect; no one is except GOD!!!

I love you Michael.. When osaw you on the Gaither video when you first started back singing, you sang "I bowed on my knees and cried Holy" and you cried and went and hugged Vestal.. I cried with you. That really touched my heart... I always say 2 things...#1. If God forgives, who are we not to... #2 Who among us have not sinned... I was so excited when I read you were joining the Gaithers... There is an humbleness about you now that I didn't see before. I look forward to seeing you in concert... one of your biggest Mississippi fans... carol brady

I just watched Gaither Vocal Band Reunion last night and I was touched. Micheal's voice is anointed and I thank God for the ministry God gave. That's the whole thing in a nutshell. If God is soveriegn, and omniscient, full of grace and mercy and most of all forgiveness, who are we to judge and condemn. Thank God for people like JD Sumner and Bill Gaither who have shown the love of Jesus. Keep on singing for Jesus, Michael, you are a blessing to many.

Michael...saw you last night in Orlando with the Gaithers...wow, so good to see you back and using your voice for the Lord. You are not alone, scripture tells us, "For ALL have sinned and fallen short..." Sin is sin, no matter how big or small. Forgiveness is available to all! Hi! Michael, I always love to listen to a christian music, and one day I saw your picture in one of these cd promotions on tv and I kind got curious,so I went to you tube and and I was blown away with your golden voice. God blessed you with the voice and thank you for using it for His glory.

Hello Michael, .. been seeing you on the Gaither Music Hour, .. also heard and saw your tears, rejoicing, and burdens as well. That led me to search more of your Biography as well, which led me here. I too was in Gospel music, as a lead vocalist of a Trio, originator of a local weekly gospel event, and two gospel radio broadcasts. Like you, I allowed the flesh to lead me down a road that cost me my reputation, my ministry, and my marriage. I cannot fix the or change the past, .. but only hope to again one day feel able to sing His praises with my head up. God Bless you, and your ministry

Hi Michael, I am so glad that I googled and found you after all these years of listening to your songs. Last night, I watched the Gaither Vocal Bank Reunion II, and was so overcome with emotions as I watched you try to sing, "I'm free from the shakles....free at last" and I cried right along with you and all the others in the "band" who were crying with you. I am an old grandma and I appreciate the bright smiles of so many of those young men, but some of us have been where you have been and realize the amazing grace of our Father in heaven. I have your shows DVR'd and am keeping them because I love and admire you. You seem humble to me. As for those in the media who feel you need to ask their forgiveness, I think they should read their Bibles a bit, especially the part that quotes God as saying, "For I will forgive who I will forgive, but as for you, you are to forgive seventy times seven." So you've been forgiven by the only One who matters and you have a fantastic voice and a very bright future. I am so glad you have your own show. You are the same age as my oldest son, Ward, who passed away Thanksgiving Eve of 2007, so I feel especially glad for you. You just keep on doing what you do, 'cause you now have a worldwide "pulpit" and you are awesome. Take care and God bless, Marsielle Houston, TX

Michael, it is not the will of God for us to continue to condemn ourselves but it is the flesh that does so. And, in your case being in the public eye, they will condemn you as that is human nature. I know because I too am a gospel singer, and a human being. Always remember God knows your heart. Never, ever forget that. You are forgiven.

I have and always will be so much in awe of the man Michael is, basically because he had the strenth and backbone to do what so many would not. The scripture comes to my mind about when Jesus said "he is without sin cast the first stone". To the best of my knowledge there's not ANYONE that can say they have no sin in their life, we have not reached that perfect place where no sin can ever enter. I love Michael and I am so very grateful that the devil could not keep him from all of us that love and appreciate him. So happy for the reorganization of the Gaither's, can't wait to hear the new sound!!

Michael, I hope you can remember Clinton,North Carolina, I sang with a local group "The Guiding Lights Quartet". My brother-in-law Jimmy Smith played piano for us. We have read your book Michael and it shows just how great our God is. Congratulations on your return to the Gaither Vocal Band. The Reunion DVD's are great. We have tickets to the up-coming concert in Fayetteville and I believe we will be on row "D". God Bless You Michael, He has lots more in store for you and your family!!! Michael, I'm not sure if you remember me, we went to WRH together. I was Barbara Benton. I've lived in Birmingham for about 25yrs. Anyway, I was in row 8 at your concert in Birmingham on Dec.6th,2008.So good to see you and hear you sing, great job! I didn't get a meet-an-greet when I went in and a guard the size of an 18wheeler would not let me in the back, as we say in Wallace, dag gone! I peeked behind the curtain and the line looked 5 mi long. Just wanted to say hello and I am proud of you. My mom and I read your book; you have an awesome testimony. Oh by the way, my Aunt Lena married your dad. How cool is that? Tell them hello from Barbara & Ann. We love you all! After all we're hometown friends and family from Wallace. People don't know what they missed!! Will look forward to your next concert. . This time maybe my mom can go with me.She lives in Chattanooga, TN. Take care Michael, God bless and congratulations to God for the wonderful things he has done in your life. Love in Christ Barbara Jones & Ann Milton. Now Michael I would like to say that I bought your book and could not put it down till I was finished. You have an awesome testimony. God is wonderful and without Him we would be lost forever! But thank goodness God forgives us for our sins. We all have our crosses to bear but we can do it through Christ Jesus!! Praise God! I have some of your CD's in my truck and they have given me many hours of praise and worship. Michael, just keep doing what you have been doing and always trust the Lord in everything you do. I see the work of God in your life so just be happy!!! Your Sister in Christ, Ann Milton

I have to say, Praise God!!. When your breakdown happened in the Christian Music Broadcast World, I prayed for you and kept praying for you everytime I heard other vocalist sing your song, "Mary Did You Know". I am so thankful that God turned everything around for you and to make a comeback like you have. Stand strong with Christ and never look back. You have a gifted voice that is only given by our Maker, Jesus Christ. I give him praise for your voice, your talents and your gift. You were not alone then or now. I pray that God will use you and my your testimony reach others that are suffering, hurting and strength to become victorious over all defeats. Michael & Marcie, "Thank you GOD" for bringing back Michael English. I can still remember, like it was yesterday, what happened to you all those years ago. I'm ashamed by the way you were treated. We are commanded to hate the sin but love the sinner. But Praise GOD! HE had plans for you! Your voice is HIS gift to you to be shared. Many have been and will be blessed. Your testimony is powerful! Keep on brother! The best is yet to come! God bless you and your family.

WE RECENTLY HAD THE PRIVLEDGE TO HEAR MICHAEL SING FROM HIS HEART, SHARING A WORSHIPFUL EXPERIENCE WITH HIM AT "THE HOLY LAND EXPERIENCE" IN ORLANDO. THIS IS A MAN WITH AN INCREDIBLE GIFT FROM GOD. MICHAEL'S VOICE HAS SUCH A DISTINCTION. I FELT LIKE HE ACTUALLY TOOK US TO THE THRONE ROOM OF GOD WHEN HE WAS SINGING. I KNOW MICHAEL HAS HAD STRUGGLES IN HIS LIFE...WHO OF US HAS NOT??? I JUST THANK GOD HE WAS ABLE TO OVERCOME HIS BONDAGES AND STILL BE ABLE TO WORSHIP OUR CREATOR GOD. THANK YOU MICHAEL ENGLISH FOR BEING ABLE TO SHARE YOUR TRIALS WITH US IN YOUR BOOK "THE PRODIGAL COMES HOME."

Michael I'm so glad you hung in there. Sometimes the most cruel human beings call themselves christians....they don't understand the part about love, grace and forgiveness.....it's all about the religion, the do's and don't's which have absolutley nothing to do with God but everything to do with their own fears. God see's our human frailness and extends his grace to us.....we all fail and will continue to fail but this is part of our learning and experiencing this life. We come to realize that without God, we have nothing, we are nothing. Thank you for putting yourself back out there. You are someone that I connect with, not only in your music but in your life experiences.....I too have had terrible panic attacks and coming through them has been a difficult road but a blessed road as well....I've learned alot. I can say I haven't had a panic attack in many years, I've learned how to control it....not to say I don't feel the fears sometimes but I know who I am and where I'm going. You are an amazing individual, don't look back, just continue forward making a difference in this world. : )

Prov 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and is safe. Michael thank God for his grace and mercy that have brought you through. Keep your head up. There are five things to keep the faith 1. Prayer (daily) 2. Read the word(daily) 3. Witnessing (tell other about God) 4. Tithing and Offering 5. Going to church. i can assure you doing this you will keep going on in God. Octavia Charles St.Kitts (Caribbean Islands)

Hello Michael, I just got one of your CD's from the Ottawa Library in Ontario, Canada and for some reason I was drawn to read all about you. I would like to apologize for those who judged you over your private life. When Christians judge like that and ostracize someone , it deeply saddens me."Judge not ,yet ye be judged." I am from Charlottetown PEI, the most beautiful place in Canada and being a very tiny island , I find that gossip runs rampant.Gossip and judgement , what are we coming to as a human race? I think your music is beautiful and God gave you a wonderful voice for a reason. Please don't ever stop singing Christian Music. Namaste and have an absolutely wonderful day!! Melanie

Hi Michael, I have been saved for over 30 years and have done many things I am sure glad I am forgiven for. I get up every morning thanking god for his grace and his word that keeps me grounded. I quit listening to christian music in the late 80's deciding it was all the same and sounded mechanical. About 4 years ago my I was introduced to your CD "Gospel" and was literally brought to tears with the anointing that is upon you that is felt in your music. I was hooked! I started purchasing christian CD's again and loving it. I want to thank you for putting your self out there every day for people you dont even know. Your music has literally changed my life and I can hardly wait to meet you one day. Your newest CD "prodical son" is AMAZING!! there's that anointing again... :)II Tim. 1:7 tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind. I find myself repeating this daily for strenth. I am happy God has blessed you and your family. Sincerely, Peggy

Hey Michael. I used to sing in the choir at First Baptist North Spartanburg, and had the pleasure of singing with you when you came to our church. I was saddened when the Christian book stores pulled your music during your trials, but I kept right on listening. I think you are a very gifed man and have a beautiful voice. I suffer from panic attacks, and I am trying to deal with that, fortunately they are not very often. I'm sure you heard that Johnny Harlow passed away a few years ago. He was one of a kind. Keep singing and God Bless you!

Dear Michael, I'm sure that you do not remember me. But about 15 years ago yu were at the church I attended North Spartanburg Baptist, Spartanburg, SC. Our minister of music was Johnny Harlow and at the time Steve Potts was our pianist. I say an opening number with our choir and orcestra backing me up. Good Time I believe was the correct title. I was so nervous to be singing with such an acconplish and truely remarkable individual as yourselve in the room. Steve had chosen me from our many wonderful, talented individuals to do this number. I will never forget what you said to me after your concert ended. You said that God had given me a talent to minister to others with my songs and it was you that was honered to be a part of that blessing. I was saddened when I heard the news those not so many years ago but have continued to support you with my prayers and any time you have been on Praise the Lord or other programs I try to watch. I have struggled with my own set backs since then. It is hard for me to know why God allows us to allow Satan to take hold of our lives at times. I guess that it is the way he has to see how strong our faith in Him is at the time. God Bless you as you continue to minister to others not only the non belivers but those of us who are Christians. Take care and know that We can do all things through Christ if you just let Him be our guide in this life jouney. God Bless, In Him Janet Farmer-Tate

Hi Michael, My grandfather Rev. David Hernandez just passed away last Tuesday 2/19/08 he was a pastor for over 35 years and one of his last requests was that the song "Holy" by Michael English be sung at his service. I just go back yesterday and it was beautiful!!! The song was so inspiring and uplifting.

Michael, I thank the Lord that you came back to sing what the Lord put into your heart. We all have sinned and fallen short of God, those that think they are better, need to re-evaluate their lives. Who are we to cast stones? Remember the walk with Jesus is a narrow path. Many will talk, few truly follow Jesus. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and I hope you can see your child and minister. I enjoyed watching and listening to Michael so very much when he was with Gaither Trio...I was very, very sad for him when the news of his affair came out and all that happened. However, when I saw the DVD of his return to Gaithers and ended the show singing I Bowed on my Knees and Cried Holy and he received a standing ovation and so much love was shown him, I think we as Christians have cerainly forgiven him as well as the Lord. I hope that he is allowed to return to some of the Gaither Concerts. God has given him so much talent and I pray that he will be able to continue singing for the Lord. I am so proud of you and for you,Michael.
