Down but Never Out
New Possibilities
Aretha enjoyed her married life in Los Angeles. She and Glynn were living with her four sons and his three children from a previous marriage, so it was a busy household. With Glynn's encouragement she was also considering acting opportunities. Aretha accepted a part in the film The Blues Brothers, starring Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi. In the film, Aretha plays a waitress who tries to stop her man from joining a traveling blues band. She performed her song “Think” and received great reviews.
Jerry Wexler had resigned from Atlantic Records. Aretha's albums on Atlantic were not doing well. She feared that the company wasn't doing enough to promote her music. Aretha began considering other offers.
