Tragedy and the Future
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Honors
In 1994, Elton received one the greatest rewards a rock and roller can receive: He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As the Hall of Fame cited, there are few performers who have been in rock as long as Elton. In 1992, Elton beat out Elvis Presley's old record for the most years in a row of top-40 hits on Billboard's singles chart. Elton had been on the charts every year since the entry of “Your Song” in the late '70s. Even before 1994, Elton was a legend. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame formally acknowledged him as a musician who added his own style to rock and roll and therefore helped keep its captivating sound thriving.
